Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has appointed Patrick McHenry, a former Republican congressman from North Carolina, as a senior advisor. McHenry, who served in Congress for two decades before retiring in January, will focus on advocating for startups, referred to by a16z as "little tech," with policymakers. Known for his criticism of the SEC under Chair Gary Gensler, McHenry's appointment aligns with a16z's growing influence in policy and government, including recent hires such as Brian Quintenz leading the CFTC and others in government roles. Additionally, a16z's American Dynamism practice, which supports defense and government tech startups, has expanded with the addition of former Marine Daniel Penny.
