Air fryers causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage, says insurer

Aviva is urging people to make sure they are using air fryers correctly and following manufacturers’ guidance.

Aviva has reported that air fryers have caused significant damage, with claims averaging tens of thousands of pounds, including a case of £80,000 in damage. Fires from air fryers have led to destroyed kitchens and other household items. A survey by Censuswide found that 68% of people own air fryers, but only 21% follow the manual strictly. Unsafe practices include overfilling and using non-ventilated areas. Aviva advises users to follow safety guidelines, such as not leaving fryers unattended, using non-flammable surfaces, and ensuring ventilation. Electrical Safety First emphasizes safe usage, advising against overfilling and using extension leads. Aviva's tips include regular cleaning, checking for damage, and keeping fryers away from water.
