Alex Ovechkin scored his 884th NHL goal, moving him 10 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's all-time record, during Washington Capitals' 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ovechkin, who is on pace to break the record in early April, beat Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy late in the third period after being stopped twice earlier. The Lightning, who remained hot despite Ovechkin's milestone, were aware of his potential to reach the record, as Lightning coach Jon Cooper noted before the game.
