Following events in Latakia where over 1,000 people died, Syrian President Ahmed Şara announced the formation of an independent national investigation committee comprised of 7 members. The committee is tasked with investigating the causes and progression of the events, examining violations against civilians, identifying those responsible, and reviewing attacks against public institutions, security forces, and the army. A comprehensive report is expected to be submitted to the Syrian Presidency within 30 days. The events in Latakia and its surroundings resulted in a high death toll, with over 700 of the deceased reportedly killed by close-range gunfire. Clashes resulted in the deaths of 148 pro-Assad elements and 125 Syrian government forces.
