Data shows nearly 75 per cent of Hong Kong’s non-local, first-year undergraduates at public universities are from mainland.
Hong Kong universities are attracting a growing number of non-local students, but 74% are from mainland China in the 2024-25 academic year, up from 71% the previous year. While non-mainland international student numbers increased, their overall proportion decreased to 26% following a doubling of the non-local student intake cap, raising concerns about campus internationalization.
