At least 16 dead in Kentucky and other states after severe flooding sweeps the South

Parts of Kentucky and Tennessee received up to 7 inches of rain during the weekend storms, and at least 16 people have died in the Southeast

Severe flooding in the Southern U.S., particularly in Kentucky and Tennessee, has resulted in at least 16 deaths, with the majority occurring in Kentucky. The region experienced up to 7 inches of rainfall, causing the Kentucky River to reach its highest level in decades. Emergency measures included a travel ban and curfew in Kentucky. Over 100 rescues were conducted in Southwest Virginia, and nearly 244,000 customers across seven eastern states faced power outages. A winter storm watch was issued for Kentucky, with additional snowfall and rising river levels expected, potentially leading to further flooding. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear secured federal disaster relief funding approval from the government.
