Ban on greyhound racing to come in ‘as soon as practicably possible’ in Wales

Huw Irranca-Davies, the deputy First Minister, announced the ban in the Senedd in Cardiff Bay on Tuesday.

The Welsh government has announced plans to ban greyhound racing as soon as possible, following criticism from the RSPCA regarding animal welfare. Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies made the announcement, noting cross-party support and a petition with 35,000 signatures. However, supporters argue the ban isn't based on welfare concerns but due to pressure from animal rights groups. Mark Bird of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain claims there's no evidence supporting the ban and that it affects local livelihoods. Wales has one greyhound track, and Dogs Trust CEO Owen Sharp urged other UK regions to follow, calling the sport inhumane.
