Bell tolls as New York marks the anniversary of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing

New York City has marked the anniversary of the 1993 bombing at the old World Trade Center, when Islamic extremists first attempted to bring down the twin towers

New York City marked the anniversary of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, when Islamic extremists used 1,200 pounds of explosives in a van to target the twin towers. Relatives of the victims gathered to lay flowers and read names, while a bell tolled at 12:18 p.m., the exact time of the explosion. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which lost four employees in the attack, held a Mass in tribute. Six individuals, including ringleader Ramzi Yousef, were convicted for the bombing, which created a 150-foot-wide crater. A fountain honoring the victims, destroyed in the 2001 attacks, is now commemorated on the same plaza as the current memorial pools.
