Benefits claimants receive free electric vehicle chargers under taxpayer

Campaigners have urged the Government to crack down on the Motability scheme to end spiralling costs, as concerns grow that the scheme is being abused.



Under the taxpayer-subsidized Motability scheme, benefits claimants received over 66,000 free electric vehicle chargers. The scheme, funded in part by profits from used car sales, allocated £265.5 million to help meet Net Zero goals, also subsidizing EV prices. Motability ended the free charger offer in October. The scheme has faced criticism for expanding eligibility and potential abuse.
