Breakthrough as paralyzed man walks again after single injection of new treatment

Although scientists said larger clinical trials will be needed, the early results point to a 50-50 chance that this treatment could restore a paralyzed patient's ability to move again.



A paralyzed man is walking again after a single injection of reprogrammed stem cells in a first-of-its-kind trial led by stem cell scientist Hideyuki Okano in Japan. Out of four patients, two have shown noticeable improvements with no side effects after a year of follow-up. Larger clinical trials are needed.
