British Royal Navy sailor, 22, is jailed in Bahrain after 'stepping in to break up a fight'

Owen Haggerty, 22, was arrested on assault charges in Bahrain last month and was being held in a detention centre. He was convicted on Wednesday and jailed for three months.

Owen Haggerty, a 22-year-old British Royal Navy sailor, has been jailed for three months in Bahrain for allegedly intervening in a fight. His mother, Kirsty Reynolds, is working with her local MP, the Home Office, and the Royal Navy to secure his release and return to the UK. Haggerty was arrested last month, one day before completing his deployment. He remained on the scene to help an injured victim, but was taken into custody when police arrived. Reynolds has spent over £4,000 on legal fees. The Royal Navy stated it is supporting Haggerty and his family, working with the British Embassy in Bahrain and Bahrain's law enforcement.
