The former secretaries, including James Mattis, William Perry, Leon Panetta, Chuck Hagel, and Lloyd Austin, argue that Trump's actions, under the guise of depoliticizing the military, are advancing a partisan agenda and eroding legal limits on presidential authority. They warn that such moves could discourage capable individuals from serving in the military due to fears of political evaluations and urge Congress to reject candidates for vacated positions, including Dan Caine, who was appointed to replace Brown.
