Several Canadian provinces have taken U.S. liquor off store shelves as part of retaliatory measures against President Donald Trump's tariffs.
In March 2025, Canada removed U.S. liquor from its shelves in retaliation against tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Brown-Forman's CEO, Lawson Whiting, called this a "disproportionate response" and "worse than a tariff," but noted Canada only accounted for 1% of their total sales. Canada also imposed 25% tariffs on certain U.S. goods. Brown-Forman reaffirmed its annual forecasts despite these challenges, even as net sales fell 3% year-over-year.
