Canadians now have to fork over new tax to visit popular sunny getaway

Travelling from Canada to Mexico? If you're headed to the state of Baja California Sur, you'll now have to pay a mandatory tax.It's going to cost you a little more to travel to the popular Mexican state that's known for its nightlife, marine life, and luxury resorts, after the government of Baja California Sur announced that the Embrace It Tax is now in effect.That means all foreign visitors, including travellers from Canada, planning to visit the state in the northwest of Mexico will now be required to pay the tax before entry.What is the Embrace It Tax?According to the Ministry of Tourism and Economy, Baja welcomed 1.9 million travellers between January and May 2025, a 3.2 per cent increase from the previous year.
