Militant group has been under growing pressure from Gazans to end the war
Following a breakdown in ceasefire negotiations, Israel has renewed attacks on Gaza, prompting Hamas to declare that a ceasefire is its only viable option. Israel seeks to eliminate Hamas, while Hamas insists on moving forward with the original ceasefire agreement which includes the release of remaining hostages and a complete end to the war, something Israel is unwilling to agree to. The previous ceasefire saw improved conditions in Gaza with aid flowing in and some prisoners being exchanged, but disagreements over the next phase led to renewed conflict.
