The Jockey Club and race sponsors Sky Bet have chosen to honour the jockey, who died from injuries sustained in a fall, in the race he captured in 2023
The first race at the Cheltenham Festival 2025, the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, will be renamed the Michael O’Sullivan Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in memory of the 24-year-old jockey, who died in a fall in February 2023. The race, which O’Sullivan won in 2023, will be held on March 11, 2025. The Jockey Club and Sky Bet, the race sponsors, announced the tribute, which was praised by O’Sullivan’s family and Cheltenham CEO Guy Lavender.
