Children experiencing malnutrition and stunted growth in Home Office asylum hotels

Nearly 1,500 complaints escalated by help service to Home Office accommodation providers last year, new data reveals

Children in Home Office asylum hotels are experiencing malnutrition and stunted growth due to poor food quality, with nearly 1,500 related complaints escalated to the Home Office. Testimonies shared with MPs detail issues including sexual assaults, threats, prostitution, and harassment within hotels. Data shows hundreds of complaints were made to Home Office accommodation providers (Mears, ClearSprings Ready Homes, Serco). Concerns also include safeguarding issues, with foreign national offenders housed in asylum accommodation due to a lack of return agreements and some local councils refusing to engage with asylum accommodation procurement.
