Children struggling to cope with harms encountered online – study

The latest annual wellbeing index from charity Internet Matters found parents and children remain concerned about online safety.

A study by Internet Matters reveals that 67% of UK children have encountered online harm, with more feeling distressed by such experiences. Parents are increasingly concerned about graphic violence and body image issues. Notably, fewer children feel safe online now (77%) compared to last year (81%). Despite these challenges, the internet remains a vital tool for finding supportive communities, with 50% of children valuing its role, up from 44%. Parents are also improving their ability to monitor their children's online activities. Internet Matters emphasizes the need for stronger online safety legislation to protect children.
