Chile experienced a nationwide blackout on Tuesday afternoon, leaving over 98% of the country without power. The outage, caused by an "unwanted operation" in the systems of electric company ISA Interchile, led President Gabriel Boric to declare a state of emergency and impose a curfew. This was the worst blackout since the 2010 earthquake. The copper industry, a major sector, was paralyzed, and the Viña del Mar music festival had to reschedule. At least three deaths were linked to the outage, though causes are under investigation. Electricity was mostly restored by Wednesday morning, with some areas still experiencing intermittent power. The government announced a thorough investigation and emphasized accountability for those responsible. ISA Interchile is cooperating with the investigation. Additionally, a Scotiabank robbery occurred during the blackout, with approximately $424,000 stolen.
