Chinese tech giant Tencent joins latest investment round in Shanghai robotics start

Robots have become a hot investment area in China as VC firms, supply chain partners and tech giants jostle to back leading start-ups.



Tencent invested in Shanghai-based humanoid robotics start-up Agibot (Zhiyuan Robotics) in its latest funding round, which also included Lanchi Ventures, Longcheer Technology, Wolong, and Zhuhai Huafa Group. The investment increased Agibot's registered capital to 80.46 million yuan (US$11.1 million). Agibot's founders include a former Huawei "Genius Youth" recruit and a Shanghai Jiao Tong University professor.
