Citizen challenges National Cathedral funding at Supreme Court; AG disputes unconstitutionality

The Supreme Court has been asked to order the refund of all sums taken from the Consolidated Fund to finance the National Cathedral project because it was undertaken without prior approval of the Speaker of Parliament and the Chairperson of the Council of State, contrary to Article 179(11) of the Constitution of Ghana. A citizen, Jonathan Amable of Unity Lodge, Anloga, in the Volta Region, is challenging the legality of the government’s financing of the construction of the National Cathedral from the Consolidated Fund.
