Cut red tape faster, family doctors urge, as B.C. legislature resumes sittings

In Tuesday's speech, the NDP government pointed to efforts to recruit and retain more doctors, while allowing doctors to spend more time with their patients.

Family doctors in British Columbia are urging the provincial government to expedite the reduction of administrative burdens and red tape, as highlighted during the resumption of the legislature. The BC College of Family Physicians commends the government's commitment to increasing access to primary care but emphasizes the need for quicker action. The government has made strides, such as revamping the pay model, which has attracted more physicians and connected more individuals to primary care. However, doctors face challenges with rising operational costs and time-consuming administrative tasks, which detract from patient care. The college advocates for eliminating sick notes and standardizing complex medical forms to reduce paperwork. The government has indicated that updates will be forthcoming.
