David Darmofal SM ’91, PhD ’93 named vice chancellor for undergraduate and graduate education

Longtime AeroAstro professor brings deep experience with academic and student life.



David Darmofal, a longtime MIT AeroAstro professor and former head of house at The Warehouse, has been appointed as the new vice chancellor for undergraduate and graduate education. Chancellor Melissa Nobles highlighted his extensive experience in MIT's academic and student life during the announcement. Darmofal will lead the Office of the Vice Chancellor, overseeing academic units, collaborating with student organizations, and supporting MIT's graduate programs. His research focuses on computational methods in fluid dynamics. He succeeds Ian Waitz, having previously led MIT's response to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
