The future Stablex landfill site in Blainville contains habitats for protected fish species, as well as the painted turtle, a species at risk. Stablex has not requested authorization from Fisheries and Oceans Canada to destroy or alter these habitats, but proposes to relocate fish and relocate amphibians and reptiles, and claims the area is not of high environmental value. The site contains more wetlands than the Northvolt site, with studies indicating high biodiversity protection value.
