Did a Rock Hit Your Windshield, or Did Your Windshield Hit a Rock?

Either way, it sucks. But at least there’s some fun physics to ponder while you’re sitting in the repair shop.

Windshield damage often results from rocks either being struck by the car or thrown up by other vehicles. Rocks' motion can change due to friction and spinning, potentially leading to higher bounces. Typically, the driver is responsible as the car collides with the rock, not the other way around.
