A recent study analyzed the diets of healthy and fit 70-year-olds, finding that those who regularly consumed fruits (especially berries), vegetables (particularly leafy greens), whole grains, nuts, legumes (especially beans), yogurt, fish, and unsaturated fats were more likely to age healthily. Diets like the "Alternative Healthy Eating Index" and the Mediterranean diet were also associated with healthy aging. Conversely, high consumption of trans fats, salt, sugary drinks, and processed meats decreased the likelihood of healthy aging, with highly processed foods reducing the chance by 32%. A "Planetary Health Diet Index" was linked to better cognitive abilities in old age.
