Edmonton Symphony Orchestra’s next music director calls opportunity ‘a joy and a responsibility’

Jean-Marie Zeitouni will officially will make his debut in the new role on Sept. 27.



The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) has appointed Jean-Marie Zeitouni as its next music director, making him the third Canadian to hold the position. Zeitouni, who has conducted over 35 performances with the ESO and Edmonton Opera, described the opportunity as a "tremendous honor" and a "joy and responsibility." The ESO conducted a highly competitive international search before selecting him. Zeitouni, who has led orchestras on five continents, expressed his passion for shaping the orchestra's future and praised Edmonton as a city with a vibrant cultural scene. The ESO highlighted his vision, leadership, and experience, calling his appointment a defining moment for the organization.
