The investigation began following reports to the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office about the authenticity of İmamoğlu's diploma, and a report by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) that raised questions about its validity. İmamoğlu has testified as a "suspect" on charges of "forgery of official documents."
