Elon Musk told Republican lawmakers he is not to blame for mass firings of federal workers, attributing those decisions to individual agencies, while Donald Trump reportedly told his cabinet secretaries that they, not Musk, are in charge of hiring and firing. Both Musk and Trump appear to be distancing the tech billionaire from the job cuts made under the "department of government efficiency" (Doge) which Musk heads. Trump stated that while Musk makes recommendations, department secretaries have final say, although he added that Musk could do the cutting if they don't.
