EU slaps more sanctions on Russia ahead of Ukraine war’s third year

The move comes with the Europeans sidelined from US-led talks to end the war.

The EU has approved its 16th round of sanctions against Russia, targeting its "shadow fleet" of ships used to bypass oil and gas transport restrictions and carry stolen Ukrainian grain. The measures, including travel bans, asset freezes, and trade restrictions, will take effect ahead of the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Ukraine has rejected any US-Russia peace deal not involving Kyiv, while the EU remains sidelined from US-led peace talks.
