Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has reintroduced the LIABLE Act, a bill aimed at removing federal liability protections for COVID-19 vaccines. The legislation seeks to allow individuals injured by the vaccines to pursue civil litigation. The vaccines were distributed under emergency use authorization rather than full FDA approval. Currently, only 50 injury cases have been compensated despite millions of doses administered. The bill addresses existing protections under the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (NCVIA) and the Public Readiness and Preparedness (PREP) Act, enabling injured individuals to access existing compensation programs and ensuring retroactive application.
