Experimental drug may PREVENT Alzheimer's in potential breakthrough

An experimental drug may prevent early-onset Alzheimer's in people genetically destined to get it, a groundbreaking study from researchers at Washington University in St Louis suggests.

A study suggests an experimental drug, gantenerumab, may prevent early-onset Alzheimer's in individuals genetically predisposed to the disease by targeting amyloid proteins in the brain. The drug halved the risk of developing the condition in asymptomatic patients after eight years of treatment. While gantenerumab is no longer being developed, researchers believe similar anti-amyloid drugs could lead to future prevention and treatment options for Alzheimer's patients.
