Farming as therapy: One family’s vision for changing mental health care in Ireland

After losing their son Kieran to suicide, John and Vicky McKeon set up Kyrie Farm, which aims to offer an approach to mental health recovery rooted in purpose, community and healing in nature

John and Vicky McKeon founded Kyrie Farm in Ireland after losing their son Kieran to suicide, inspired by Gould Farm in the US. The farm aims to provide mental health recovery through community, purpose, and nature, offering a therapeutic environment with work, therapy, and community living. Currently operational on 57 acres, Kyrie Farm seeks to expand into a residential mental health community, addressing gaps in Ireland’s mental health system by providing a supportive, nature-based approach to recovery.
