The Federal Government of Nigeria, in partnership with HarvestPlus, is promoting Provitamin A Maize to combat Vitamin A deficiency and malnutrition, particularly among children and lactating mothers. The initiative includes developing micronutrient standards, providing farmers with improved seeds, mechanization support, and funding, and expanding to other biofortified crops like Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato and fortified rice. Efforts are underway to ensure proper grading and labeling of Provitamin A Maize, distinguishable by its orange color, to aid consumer identification.
