The Peruvian Prosecutor's Office raided the home and other properties of Interior Minister Juan José Santiváñez as part of an investigation into alleged influence peddling. Santiváñez is accused of accepting US$20,000 to influence decisions in the Constitutional Court (TC), the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), and the Ministry of Justice on behalf of a client. The prosecution has requested an 18-month travel ban and presented evidence including WhatsApp messages, audios, and images. A protected witness claims Santiváñez continued negotiations even after becoming Minister, suggesting he had more influence due to his position. Santiváñez denies the allegations, stating the payments were for legal fees. The raid aims to seize evidence related to the case.
