Fluoride commissioning at water treatment plants facing further delays
Fluoride reintroduction to Calgary's water system is delayed until later in the second quarter of 2025 due to necessary equipment checks and inspections at the Glenmore and Bearspaw water treatment plants. Upgrades approved in 2021, following a plebiscite, have taken over three years and cost approximately $28 million, nearly triple the initial estimate. The mayor defends the delay citing the importance of safe drinking water, while a pro-fluoride group calls the delay "devastating."
