Four sports broadcasters fined £4m after colluding on freelance pay rates

BT, IMG, ITV and BBC have all been fined after a regulator found companies coordinated on how much to pay freelancers.

The BBC, ITV, BT, and IMG were fined a combined £4.24 million by the UK's CMA for illegally sharing sensitive information about freelance pay rates for sports broadcasting, aiming to coordinate and benchmark rates. Sky admitted involvement but avoided a fine for alerting the CMA first. The CMA found 15 instances of illegal information sharing regarding pay, including day rates and pay increases.
