The Lakerice (Lagos/Kebbi) and MITROS (Ogun State) rice projects, launched in 2016 and 2017 respectively to provide affordable, locally produced rice and stimulate economic growth, both failed within a few years. Lakerice suffered from insecurity impacting paddy production in Kebbi and a shift in focus to a new rice mill in Lagos. MITROS rice production ceased due to a lack of paddy supply and government insincerity. Both failures highlight issues with project planning and execution.
