From ready meals to air defence radar: How Irish aid to Ukraine has evolved

Government policy is that only non-lethal aid is provided, but the type of assistance has changed since the war began

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ireland has provided non-lethal aid, evolving from initial medical and humanitarian supplies to include military equipment, training for Ukrainian troops, and financial contributions through the European Peace Facility. While committed to €250 million in non-lethal military support, Hungary's blockage at the EU level has limited disbursement. Ireland is now directing aid through other channels, including procuring equipment from Ukrainian industry, with a focus on air defense system components and electronic warfare equipment.
