Betsy Arakawa, wife of Gene Hackman, died on February 11, 2025, at the age of 65 from a pulmonary syndrome caused by hantavirus, transmitted by mice. She was found dead in the bathroom on February 26, with thyroid medication nearby. Her last known activities included picking up her dog from daycare on February 9 and having unread emails on February 11. Rodent activity was found on the property, but not inside the main house. Gene Hackman was 95 when both where found dead, reportedly one week apart.
