Those investigating the deaths of Gene Hackman, his wife and their beloved dog have revealed a heartbreaking reason why their pet died but their others didn't.
Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa died in their New Mexico home. Betsy died from a flu-like infection caused by rat feces, and Gene died from heart disease with Alzheimer's as a significant factor. Their dog Zinna, who had recently undergone a medical procedure and was confined to a crate, was also found dead, likely due to dehydration and starvation. Two other dogs survived, having access to food and water through a dog door.
