Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, were found dead in their Santa Fe home along with a pet dog. Arakawa died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. A week later, Hackman, who had advanced Alzheimer's, died of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, unable to seek help after his wife's death. Initial gas leak speculation was ruled out, and authorities confirmed no external trauma or carbon monoxide poisoning.
