Government approves fee hikes at nearly 20% of Ireland's childcare providers

Opposition TDs say that it flies in the face of promises to reduce childcare costs to €200 per month.

In 2024, the Irish government approved fee increases for approximately 20% of childcare providers (around 850 out of 4,600) despite promises to reduce childcare costs to €200 per month. Opposition TDs criticize the move, citing the strain on families and the need for better support for childcare providers. The Department of Children estimates the maximum increase at €33.30 per week.
