Grenfell survivor in ‘utter disbelief’ as banned contractor fights council decision

Emma O’Connor, who escaped in a lift from the 20th floor with her partner, said she was shocked to hear of Siderise Insulation Ltd’s legal challenge

A Grenfell Tower survivor expressed shock after learning that Siderise Insulation Ltd, a contractor banned by Kensington and Chelsea Council (RBKC) following the 2017 fire, is appealing the decision through judicial review. The council added Siderise to a list of firms it would no longer work with in December, citing their involvement in the Grenfell refurbishment. Siderise claims its products do not meet the council's criteria for the ban and argues the exclusion is unwarranted. The council stands by its decision, while the Grenfell Inquiry found no evidence of dishonesty by Siderise but noted concerns about their marketing materials. The government has also moved to ban firms involved in the tragedy from public procurement, and plans to demolish Grenfell Tower are underway.
