The #HardStories campaign encourages victims of domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence to share their experiences, aiming to highlight the humanity behind the statistics, such as the finding that 52% of women and 28% of men have experienced sexual violence. Research indicates disclosure is a fluid, lifelong process influenced by safety and belief. Clear information and updates are important when disclosing in professional contexts. The campaign, along with potential bans on the use of counselling notes in rape cases, represents steps toward victim-centric and trauma-informed systems that encourage victims to tell their stories.
