Heathrow Airport closed all day after huge electrical substation blaze sparks chaos

A huge blaze at a nearby electricity substation has caused flight hell for passenger travelling out of Heathrow Airport as the huge UK travel hub for many has been forced to close



Heathrow Airport closed on March 21, 2025, due to a large fire at a nearby electrical substation, causing significant power outages and disrupting over 1,300 flights. Thousands of homes were also left without power, and 100 people were evacuated near the substation. Gatwick Airport accepted diverted flights.
