Heathrow Airport forced to close all day after huge electrical substation blaze sparks chaos

A huge blaze at a nearby electricity substation has caused flight hell for passenger travelling out of Heathrow Airport as the huge UK travel hub for many has been forced to close



A large fire at the North Hyde electrical substation caused a power outage, forcing Heathrow Airport to close all day on March 21, 2025, disrupting over 1,300 flights. Thousands of homes lost power and 100 people were evacuated. Gatwick Airport accepted diverted flights.
