Former lawmaker calls court order ‘absurd’ and ‘violation of human rights’, as government says assets not confiscated arbitrarily.
Hong Kong authorities have criticized fugitive former lawmaker Ted Hui Chi-fung for his online criticism of a court order allowing the seizure of HK$800,000 of his and his family's assets. Hui, who called the seizure "absurd" and a "violation of human rights," was accused by the government of making unfounded claims. The government emphasized that the seizure was not arbitrary and was carried out under the Hong Kong national security law.
