Hong Kong’s security chief attacks Guardian newspaper over Jimmy Lai claim

Secretary for Security Chris Tang says article used ‘misleading’ language in criticising top court’s rejection of Lai’s appeal over foreign lawyer.

Hong Kong's Secretary for Security Chris Tang criticized The Guardian for an article titled "The obscure Jimmy Lai ruling that exposed the erosion of Hong Kong’s rule of law," which discussed the implications of the Court of Final Appeal's rejection of Jimmy Lai's appeal to hire a British lawyer. The article quoted legal experts who argued Hong Kong's rule of law was compromised and the national security committee had excessive power. The committee previously decided Owen's involvement would undermine national security and advised against granting him a work visa, a decision Lai unsuccessfully challenged.
