How to challenge your PIP award decision and ask the DWP to look at your claim again

The average processing time for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Mandatory Reconsiderations is now 39 working days, according to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The latest figures show that 60,000 people successfully challenged their PIP award decisions during the 2023/24 financial year, with 25,600 cases reversed during the Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) process and 34,400 cases reversed after a tribunal hearing. Claimants can challenge a decision by requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration, appealing to an independent tribunal, or taking further action. The DWP emphasizes that the MR process is unaffected by the prioritization of new claims over existing reviews. Guidance on challenging decisions is available on GOV.UK.
